a small town in the Jharkhand State, Northern India.
Lok Seva Kendra is now working in over 100 villages in the steep mountainous terrain of the Jharkhand districts.

Lok Sewa Kendra transfers knowledge to village communities through education and empowerment. The organisation strongly believes that collective participatory action is essential for balanced and sustainable community development.
Living in rugged mountainous terrain presents many problems and challenging working conditions. These hurdles are overcome by working in partnership with local communities to develop practical solutions to the challenges faced by rural people. By generating a desire among the underprivileged to improve their own living conditions, Lok Sewa Kendra helps people live a life of dignity and self-respect.
The Lok Sewa Kendra office at Chaibasa, West Singhbhum experiences hot and dry summers and cool winters. Most residents live below the poverty line, agriculture remains underdeveloped, and deforestation has led to poor irrigation and limited drinking water resources. Women face low social and economic status even though they provide the major strength of the village economy. Healthcare and education facilities are also lacking.
